London Guide

Where to stay

Tube proximity is everything

neighborhood

Covent Garden

  • Did this with my family for Junior year spring break.
  • Most convenient but a little expensive.
  • Great for walking access to West End, Soho, Trafalgar Square, and the National Gallery.
  • A little busy and touristy, can feel crowded around the main piazza.

neighborhood

Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia

  • Pretty much my default (Aman used to live here)
  • Nice little parks and museums (British Museum is right there), my favourite bakery (Fortitude) is also right there, quieter
  • Not a touristy area though, right next to UCL campus

South Kensington and Notting Hill

  • South Ken is below Hyde Park; Notting Hill is above it
  • Good for a calmer trip. South Ken is a little rough on tube connectivity though
  • Notting Hill is really really pretty (like pastel houses etc.) but a little far from the main sights

Marylebone, Mayfair, and St James's

  • This is like Jack Greene London
  • Very nice, expensive, lots of good brand-name shopping (Selfridges etc.)
